About Uckfield Town Council
The Town Council is made up of 15 Councillors who are elected every four years.
The Town Mayor and the Deputy Town Mayor are elected by the Councillors each year.
The Town Council has two main Committees – General Purposes and Environment and Leisure
There is also a sub-committee – Personnel
There are also 4 additional working groups that meet less regularly but are nonetheless important – Best Value Working Group and Project Board, Urgent Consultation Panel and Editorial Board.
The Plans committee meets every three weeks in order to make representations to Wealden District Council, which is the planning authority.
All Town Council and Committee meetings are held in the Council Chamber, on the first floor, in the Civic Centre and are open to the public. Agendas are available to the public prior to the meetings, on notice boards throughout the Town and on the Council’s website. Councillors are able to claim an allowance for their duties. IIt was agreed by Full Council in December 2003 that from 1st January 2005 the Parish Basic Allowance of £650 per annum can be claimed by Councillors, in addition to the subsistence allowance that is already available.
This allowance is not available to co-opted members. A separate allowance is given to the Mayor so that they can fulfil their Mayoral duties.
The Council Offices
The Council Offices are situated on the first floor of Uckfield Civic Centre, and are open Monday to Thursday 9.00am - 5.00pm, Friday 9.00am to 4.00pm.The Council employs approximately 30 staff, both full and part time.
